Shivamogga: The city witnessed a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 and National Register of Citizens (NRC) by the Student Union on Thursday, January 2.
The union, which had earlier informed that they would stage a protest near the AA Circle, had suddenly changed the venue to the Modern Theatre located at BH Road.
According to reports, Arif from Campus Front of India (CFI) led the protest along with 15 youths.
The protesters were observed raising the slogan “Hum Azaadi Leke Rahenge” and blocking the road.
The police, who rushed to the spot, began dispersing them and even tried to physically move them, but the protesters did not budge. The police resorted to lathicharge when all other attempts failed.
The protesters were later arrested.
