Shivamogga: An altercation broke out between IAS Officer Charulata Somal, who is the Shivamogga Municipal Commissioner and MLC Ayanur Manjunath, here on Tuesday as the officer said that she was addressed in a ‘disrespectful manner’ by the MLC during their visit to inspect the various work completed under the Smart City Project at Sharavatinagar.
When Somal was speaking to District in-charge minister Thammanna about the works in progress, Manjunath complained about the slow pace at which the work is proceeding and that basic amenities are not being taken care of despite the issues having been brought to her notice.

When an irked Somal told the MLC to speak properly, he replied saying, “You want respect? Should people die when the situation is like this? You are a commissioner, right? Then solve these problems.”
The MLC addressing her in ‘singular’ raged the Municipal Commissioner, who retorted saying that one should show respect to earn it.
To this, the MLC said that action will be initiated against her.
District Minister D C Thammanna, MLA K S Eshwarappa, Deputy Commissioner K A Dayanand and Superintendent of Police Dr Ashini M were present and when the situation reached this level Thammanna intervened.
