Shivamogga: Due to the heavy rains predicted in the coastal areas by the Indian Meteorology department (IMD), the public and residents in the low-lying areas are advised to evacuate to safer places, said Deputy Commissioner K.B. Shivakumar.

In this regard, he held video interviews and conferences with executives and suggested the necessary safety and security measures to be taken.

“All personnel of the Department of Defense, Revenue, Fire, Mescom, and other concerned departments should be prepared for the control of casualties,” he said. He added that Rs 25 lakh will be sanctioned for the relief work caused by the heavy rains.

In such a situation, a member from Natural Disaster Operations team would rush to the scene periodically and collect the number. This member would also arrange a necessary team which would clear the damaged trees on roads caused by the rain. DC urged the officials to take crucial steps in managing the consequences of severe torrents.

The local authorities were suggested the responsibility of regulation of sewers running smoothly with rainwater. For the safety and convenience of the public, he recommended setting up a separate helpline and deploying staff to take timely action as per the emanations of the rainfall.
