Shivamogga: A quarantine centre in the Shivamogga district’s Bapuji Nagar was vandalised by a group of people on Wednesday evening. Chaos ensued after the incident occurred.

According to ANI, the police resorted to lathi-charge in order to control the situation.

The facility, which is being used by the district administration to quarantine travellers arriving from different states, has been opposed by the locals who had staged a protest against the same.

District Deputy Commissioner K B Sivakumar, ANI reports, has assured that the police will investigate the incident and register a case against those responsible for the vandalism.

It can be noted that quarantine centres have been set up in several districts to isolate those who are arriving from other states and foreign countries in view of the novel coronavirus crisis.

Shivamogga currently has 32 active COVID-19 cases.
