Shivamogga: State Education Minister Suresh Kumar has said that expressing nationalistic ‘one-day patriotism’ sentiments on August 15 (Independence Day) and January 26 (Republic Day) is not enough.
Addressing the gathering in an event marking Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary at Swami Vivekananda Institution, Shikaripur on Saturday, January 18, Kumar said, “It is okay to wave the tricolour on Independence Day, Republic Day or whenever Indian team skipper Virat Kohli makes a century. But, patriotism should be a part of life. We must respect our teachers, soldiers, national symbols, and the national anthem. Only by doing so, one can be a true patriot.”
“Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and Swami Vivekananda are some of the great personalities that this country has seen. Their teachings are still relevant and serve as an inspiration to the young generation,” he added.
Meanwhile, the minister urged students to protect the environment and water resources by doing their bit for society.
