Shivamogga: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa inaugurated the agricultural fest ‘Subhiksha’ on Monday, December 23.

Speaking during the occasion, he said, “In the coming days, a lot of emphasis will be put on organic farming and agriculture and water resource management will be strengthened. Apart from this, the state government will provide Rs 4000 in addition to the Rs 6000 (annually) provided under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s initiative ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi’. For this purpose, the state government has reserved Rs 2, 200 crores.”

“Several initiatives like soil health card, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, etc. along with water resource management projects, which are pro-farmer, have already been implemented. PM Modi has decided to double the income of the farmers by the year 2022, so the farmers should be encouraged to adopt modern farming technologies and apt farming methods. Currently, in the state, there are about 50,000 farmer families which are into organic farming. We want this number to reach five lakhs in another year.”

Protest against CAA
When the CM, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Lakshman Savadi, was leaving from the Inspection Bungalow (IB) to the venue of the Subhiksha programme (P.E.S. Institute of Technology and Management) via the Sagar road, a group of six youths began waving black flags as a sign of their protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state. This occurred despite the presence of heavy police contingent along the way.

As soon as the protestors began waving the flags, Congress minority cell president Arif and six others were taken into police custody and moved to the Doddapete Police Station.
