Measures taken to bring back normalcy in tension hit pockets of Shivamogga: IGP

Shivamogga: A total of 10 cases have been filed in Kote and Doddapete areas in connection to the communal tension that sparked on Thursday, said Eastern Range Inspector General of Police S Ravi.

Addressing a news conference, he said that additional police force has been brought into the district from Chitradurga, Haveri and Davangere to maintanin law and order.

A total of 148 places have been identified as sensitive and hyper-sensitive zones, nine checkposts have been put up to beef up bandobast, 22 Cheetah, 19 mobile patrolling vehicles have been pressed into action, said the IGP, while requesting general public to not pay heed to any rumours making rounds.

He said that a total of 62 persons have been arrested so far in connection to the violence and the police are waiting for the victim to recover so that the entire details of the episode could be documented.

Deputy Commissioner KB Shivakumar said that ten special magistrates have been deputed and steps have been taken to bring the region back to normalcy.

The DC said that most shops will remain closed on Friday, December 4 as precautionary measures, however, shops close to hospitals will function as usual.

Curfew clamped on Doddapete, Kote and Tunganagar will continue, said the DC.

It may be recalled that Nagesh, a 28-year-old Bajrang Dal member was brutally attacked by four armed men.

The incident led to tension in the region on Thursday, following which prohibitory orders were clamped in the said three locations.
