Influx of tourists at Jog Fall: District admin brings in new restrictions

Shivamogga: With influx of tourists at the Jog fall, last week, the district administration has decided to bring into a few restrictions to make sure that such episodes do not recur.

It may be recalled that thousands of people thronged to Jog fall, after a fake image went viral.

There was a huge traffic blockage leaving general public in lurch and also sparking fear of COVID-19 outbreak.

Considering the same, Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar an Superintendent of Police Shantharaju visited the spot and decided that tourists will be allowed to remain at the spot only for four hours. Anybody breaking this rule and overstaying will have to pay penalty.

Rs 200 penalty for not wearing mask will also be in place.

Meanwhile, public announcement system will be in place at the trourist spot. People will be made aware about the COVID-19. Those spending a lot f time at the prime location clicking pictures will be intimated through announcement to make way for others.

The parking slots have been increased. Parking on one sides has 250 vehicle capacity. Now the parking facility has been arranged on four sides, increasing the capacity to 1000 vehicles.

As of now parking facilities were provided only near Jog fall, but now the arrangement has been made at British Bunglow, Kargal rad, Yatri Niwas and the regular parking area of the Jog fall.

The district administration has banned climbing down 1400 steps to watch the ‘Jogada Guni’ henceforth. Light show will be started at the Jog fall in the evenings.

All the restrictions will be in place from August 29.
