The tusker’s death has left his caretakers on edge as authorities are yet to determine the cause. Several teams comprising of wildlife experts are currently investigating the incident.

A similar incident took place in the Udupi district last week where a 62-year-old female elephant died after suffering from a fever for more than 20 days.

The elephant was being housed in the ancient Kollur Shree Mookambika Temple, which is located atop the Kodachadri hills in the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru district.

According to the temple authorities, the elephant was gifted to them by a timber merchant and had been living inside the temple for nearly 22 years.
