Shivamogga: “Let there be no fear among the disqualified Congress legislators who have resigned from their party. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and I have decided to allow these MLAs to contest from our party,” said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday, September 30.

Speaking to the media at his home town in Shikaripur, he said, “In the previous Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators lost by a slim margin of votes. Even though MLA U B Bankar is of the KJP party, he was made president of one of the corporation boards.”

Clarifying MLA Umesh Katti’s statement that the disqualified legislators will not come to the BJP and that only the BJP’s candidates will contest the by-polls, CM BSY said, “We have already decided, in the party meeting, that the disqualified MLAs will be given a chance to contest the by-polls from our party. I’ve spoken with Umesh Katti on the same and he agreed to the party’s stand. Nobody will comment on this anymore.”

Replying to veteran Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa’s statement that BSY is the “saviour” of Lingayats, he said, “He has made that comment because of his faith in me. I respect that.”

Speaking about the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections, he said, “As some of the candidates have filed a petition in the court, nothing can be decided for another month and a half as the matter is in the court.”

On the flood and drought situation in the state, the CM said, “Due to the heavy rainfall, in several parts of the state, all the dams and lakes have filled up and some parts have suffered a lot of damage. As immediate relief, Rs 10,000 has already been given to the flood victims and Rs 1 lakh has been given to those victims whose houses have been partially damaged.”

Henceforth, the government will emphasize on water management system, he added.

Meanwhile, BSY inaugurated the Special Land Acquisition office and released Rs 750 crores from the state fund towards the Shivamogga-Shikaripur-Ranibennur rail line.
