DC Shivakumar directs officials to be alert to handle flood situation

Shivamogga: Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar has directed all the officials to be alert in case of flood.

The DC chaired a meeting with the officials on Wednesday, October 23, regarding the damages caused due to continuous downpour in the district from the past one week.

He said, “Officials of all the government departments shall be ready to handle flood –like situations. They shall visit the agricultural fields, which have faced crop damage and estimate the damages. Similarly, houses, cattle, domesticated animals and people who have been affected shall also be inspected and steps will be taken to provide relief on time. Help centres have not yet been opened. It will be set up once there is a need for the same.”

Meanwhile, due to heavy downpour in Soraba, Shikaripura, Shivamogga and Hosanagar, 38 roads have been damaged and five bridges have been damaged as 44 lakes have been overflowing. Around 35 houses have been completely destroyed and 365 houses have been partially damaged.

As per the reports 10 houses in Shivamogga, 13 in Bhadravathi, nine in Soraba and two houses in Hosanagar have been completely devastated.
