CM BSY visits flood-hit areas of dist, assures restoration with immediate effect

Shivamogga: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who is on a visit to flood-affected areas of the state, had visited several parts of Shivamogga district, here on Tuesday, August 13, in order to assess the situation.

After visiting the flood-hit areas of the district, he spoke to the media and said, “Around 5000 families who are affected due to massive floods are in need of essential commodities. In order to fulfill that, each family will be given Rs 10000. Houses which are partially affected will be given Rs 1 lakh immediately and for completely damaged ones Rs 5 lakh will be given. With regard to repair and reconstruction of damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructural requirements, the government will be releasing Rs 50 crore, immediately.”

“The officials have been directed to submit a memorandum for the multi storeyed housing facility, for the ones living in Kolageri area. In order to have a permanent solution to escape any flood-like situation, retaining walls will be constructed in different parts of the district. The government is ready for rehabilitation of 40,000 families who are badly affected by the floods”, he added.

CM BSY visited areas like Rajiv Gandhi layout, Jain Goushala Vidyanagar, and Ramanna Shreshti relief camps.

CM BSY has directed the officers to construct Mangaluru model house for the victims who have lost their houses in several areas of the districts.

As he had visited Rajiv Gandhi layout, he said, “We don’t have proper records so as to who is the owner of the house and who is staying in whose house. Hence I have directed the deputy commissioner to conduct a survey and name such areas as slums. The survey work must be completed within 15-days. If required a retaining wall will be constructed adjacent to the river that flows near the Rajiv Gandhi layout.”

Meanwhile, he visited the Mahaveera Goushala and assessed the situation there. Around 17 cows had died in the floods, pertaining to this goushala.

Member of Parliament B Y Raghavendra, MLAs Araga Jnanendra, K S Eshwarappa, MLCs Ravi Kumar, Rudregowda, Ayanur Manjunath and other leaders were present.
