Shivamogga: The constituency of Shivamogga was one of the most tracked constituencies in Karnataka, only because the BJP and the Congress-JD(S) alliance had fielded sons of two former chief ministers. It was a fight for prestige as former CM BS Yeddyurappa’s son BY Raghavendra, the incumbent Mp locked horns with Madhu Bangarappa, son of former CM S Bangarappa.
The BJP has had a clean sweep across the country and Shivamogga district was no different.
BS Raghavendra bagged 7,29,051 votes while coalition candidate Madhu Bangarappa bagged 5,06,345 votes.
Raghavendra had previously defeated Madhu Bangarappa in the recently held assembly elections as well. However, since the margin of the defeat was not huge, JDS Supremo HD Devegowda and right then said that Madhu would be their candidate for the LS polls.
