BSY flags off construction work for Shivamogga Airport via online mode 2020

Shivamogga: “The long-pending dream of Shivamogga Airport will be materialized soon and it would help to transform tourism and industrial development of Shivamogga and other surrounding districts,” informed Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday, June 15.

He was speaking after flagging off Shivamogga Airport work online at his home office ‘Krishna’ in Bengaluru. “The airport will be constructed at the sprawling areas of 662.38 acres of land located at Sogane village in Shivamogga taluk. The construction work will be undertaken in two phases and the work will be expected to be completed within a year. The government will not compromise with the quality of the work,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yediyurappa informed that several development works have been started in Shivamogga district. The railway line between Shivamogga and Shikaripura is under progress. More importance has been given to drinking water, basic facilities at schools, road connectivity among others. As the national highway divisional office has started its service in Shivamogga, the works on roads and bridges will speed up. As the construction bridge at Sigandoor across Sharavavthi backwater already started, the long-pending dream of will be materialized,” he informed.

During the same occasion, CM also inaugurated the National Highways division office also using the same method. Deputy CM and PWD Minister Govinda Karajola being the chief guest at the program said that it was a historic event. “As the divisional office of National Highway has been started in Shivamogga, the developmental works will speed up in the next coming days,” he said.

District in-charge Minister K S Eshwarappa said that more industries would come up in the district after the commencement of the airport. He also informed that employment opportunities will be more for the youth, once the airport would start to operate.

MP B Y Raghavendra informed that airport construction work was launched after rectifying all the technical issues. Meanwhile, he informed of giving more importance to the all-round development of the district.

The construction work of the airport has been planned in two-phase. In the first phase, construction of the runway, taxiway, apron, approach road, peripheral road, and retaining wall be undertaken. In the second phase, the terminal building, ATC tower, fire station among other works will be undertaken.

MLCs Ayanur Manjunath and Prasanna Kumar also spoke on the occasion. Deputy Commissioner KB Shivakumar welcomed the gathering. MLAs Araga Jnanendra, Ashok Naik, Kumar Bangarappa, Harathalu Halappa, Zilla Panchayat president Jyothi S Kumar, Mayor Suparna Shankar among others were present.

Originally this airport project was first proposed in 2008 when BS Yediyurappa was the CM for the first time. It is coming up near Sogane which is located 12 kilometers from the city. A double road between the airport site and Shivamogga city is already constructed. It is an Rs.220 crores project. 

Meanwhile, at Bengaluru, Deputy Chief Minister Govinda M Karajol, Chief Minister’s political secretary Shankaragowda Patil, Public Works Department Additional Chief Secretary Rajanish Goyal, Basic Infrastructure Department Chief Secretary Kapil Mohan and other officials were present during the occasion.
