Shivamogga: An amount of Rs 10 crores will be given to the Shivamogga district in order to carry out immediate flood relief work, said Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

He was speaking at a Zilla Panchayat meeting held to review the district’s flood situation on Saturday, August 31.

The Chief Minister said that Rs 500 crores has already been sanctioned for the flood relief works across the state. “Since the amount has been granted, the only remaining thing to do is distribute it. When Prime Minister Modi visits Karnataka in the first week of September, a proposal for additional funds to carry out the flood-relief work will be submitted to him,” he added.

Yediyurappa directed the panchayat members to identify the families that had lost everything in the floods and suitably compensate them. “Cases of farmers losing their livestock in the floods must be identified and suitable compensation must be provided to them.”

He further urged the officials to be generous in estimating the losses that people have endured due to the floods.

Shivamogga DC K B Shivakumar said that Rs 10,000 each has been transferred to the bank accounts of nearly 6,089 families affected by the floods and Rs 5 lakhs had been distributed to the kin of each of the 11 individuals who lost their lives in the floods.

To a query about Congress leader D K Shivakumar, BSY refused to comment and brushed it off saying, “We have got nothing to do with it.”

Earlier during his visit, CM Yediyurappa appointed Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj K S Eshwarappa as the district in-charge minister of Shivamogga. Eshwarappa expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister in response.
