Shivamogga: Several farmers from the district who were all set to head to Tumakuru to show black flag to Prime Minister Narendra Modi were arrested by the district police at the Shivamogga railway station on Wednesday night. The farmers were to raise their voice against the anti-farmer policies of the Modi government during the Phase II of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana programme to be held in Tumakuru on Jan 2, where PM Modi will be present.

As many as 25 members of the Raitha Sangha (Basavarajappa faction) were arrested by the police.

It is said that farmers from across the state were to assemble outside the venue where the PM was to take part in the event in Tumakuru and were supposed to protest against the policies of the centre that were affecting the farmers.

When the Shivamogga police got to know about the same, they arrested the farmers from the railway station.

Sangha district president S Shivamurthy, District general secretary EB Jagadish, district working president PD Manjappa and others were nabbed by the police.
