veerappan web 13012021The release of the web series based on Veerappan has been put on hold by the Bengaluru city, civil and sessions court after his wife V Muthulakshmi filed for an injunction.

Muthulakshmi, in her affidavit, claimed that the makers of the web series are trying to portray the late bandit in poor light. The story of the web series revolved around the forest brigand and the Special Task Force’s efforts to arrest him.

Claiming that the makers had made false statements and highlighted a few details about her marriage to Veerappan, Muthulakshmi urged that the court place a permanent injunction on the release of the web series titled “Veerappan: Hunger for Killing”.

It can be noted that Muthulakshmi’s daughter Vidhya Rani is preparing to contest in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections this year. Vidhya, who joined the BJP in February of 2020, is also the vice-president of the BJP’s youth wing.

Praveen Gowda, Muthulakshmi’s lawyer said that the suit sought to stay the release of the web series in any form, be it OTT, YouTube etc. “We highlighted the right to privacy and the court has granted a stay. We don’t have any issue if the filmmaker makes a movie based on public records, but he has said that he wants to bring out the truth about Veerappan,” Gowda added.

The web series is being made by Kannada filmmaker AMR Ramesh and has actors Kishore and Bollywood star Suniel Shetty playing major roles. Ramesh is known for making films based on historical events.

Ramesh will not be able to release the web series on any platform till the next hearing, which has been scheduled for February 6.
