On Monday, the Karnataka High Court dismissed a petition that sought to stop Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt from acting in the Kannada film “KGF: Chapter 2” starring Yash.

In the plea, the petitioner, G Shivashankar sought to stop Dutt from acting in the film on the grounds that the actor was convicted and sentenced in the Mumbai bomb blast case.

The plea was heard by a division bench of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Ashok S Kinagi who, according to a report by Live Law, said, “Which law says that a person who is convicted under an offence and has undergone sentence is prohibited from acting in a film?”

Appearing for the petitioner, advocate Rooda Veershetty argued that the people of Karnataka are opposed to the Bollywood actor being part of the Kannada film.

The bench responded by asking the petitioner who gave him the authority to represent the entire state of Karnataka. ” People cannot impose censorship,” the court observed.

In its order, the bench stated that the petitioner “has not shown any provisions of law” under which Sanjay Dutt “incurs a disqualification from acting in the films”.

The bench asdded that the petitioner has also not shown any provision of law preventing Hombale Films from allowing th Bollywood actor to act in the film.

Observing that no illegality has been pointed out by the petitioner, the petition has no merit and is dismissed.
