Bengaluru: CM BS Yediyurappa presented a surplus budget on Thursday. While many were happy with the budget and many were left sulking, Mysuru surely fell in the second category as its hopes of getting a film city was dashed.

The CM has announced a film city of global standards in Bengaluru at an estimated cost of Rs 500 cr. The project, he said will be taken up with private participation.

Though no money has been allocated for this project, it is said that the government may consider providing land. However, the announcement may evoke opposition from Mysuru, which has been demanding for a film City in the royal city of the state.

It may be recalled that Siddaramaiah government had allocated land for a Film City in his home turf-Mysuru and when HD Kumaraswamy became the CM, in his budget, he spoke of building the Film CIty in his home turf-Ramanagar, stating that since the film industry is largely functioning in Bengaluru, it would be easier to utilise the facilities if it is close to Bengaluru.

However, CM BSY has shifted the project to Bengaluru.

It must be mentioned here that Rocking Star Yash had recently appraised the CM at the International Film Festival about the struggles of the film industry. He said that a studio needs to be set up in Karnataka so that filmmakers do not go to other cities looking for infra structure needed to make movies.
