Union Budget 2019: Kanara Entrepreneurs voice their hopes

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2019 in the Parliament today, a day before Budget Day

The Economic Survey has pegged a GDP growth rate of 7% for FY20, up from 6.8% in the previous fiscal. The Survey, prepared by Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian projects the state of health of the Indian economy and outlines the challenges. The Indian economy is at a 5-year low of 6.8% in 2018-19 and the fourth quarter growth has slumped to 5.8% which is a 17-quarter low. Joblessness is at a high, consumption at a low as can be seen from the slow down in automobiles offtake, agriculture is in distress and will be compounded by the delay in and deficient monsoon. Expectations from the first budget of a government that has been returned to power with a huge mandate are naturally high and in inverse proportion to the state of the economy. Bold measures are necessary for course correction and this government has the mandate to do it.
