When you learn, you earn. When you teach you to reach… out and help many learn and earn. You reach into yourself, finding new depths. It is the Blockchain of learning.
Teaching requires a lot of effort; first to organize your time for it – multi-tasking while teaching is a big no-no; then the effort to prepare and enhance what you know – this involves about of research and additional learning; assessing your students and identifying the appropriate teaching/learning methodology; then comes delivery – the key to learning – you have to hold your student’s attention and make sure they get their concepts right; At the end of it you must be able to take failure – their failure to learn is yours to reach.
Never lose heart. Were you a good learner? Did someone take time out to teach you? Did you reach out to someone – a parent, a teacher, a friend, a peer, an elder, or even just a stranger to teach you? Did you lean by observation? Did you find a way to do it yourself? All of these are experiences that shape your attitude toward teaching.
The important thing is a teacher cares. Because if he/she did not, then he/she would not share his / her knowledge, for, after all, knowledge is power! It is the prime example of the maxim – sharing is caring.
A teacher is a parent, a guru and a mentor rolled into one. Besides being a parent to his / her own kids, he/she is a parent to so many others. Sometimes the difference is obvious, but in the best, the line is often blurred and the return on love is only visible with time. While it is a means of livelihood for one, a teacher can create a livelihood for a multitude, and therein lies its value, which, unfortunately, is not valued as much as it should be.
Knowledge must spread like a virus beyond the masks that people wear to prevent it. So, teach every day, everyday things, nuclear fission, whatever, to whomever.
Teach to reach…
