The second wave of Covid has hit India in a way that the country’s wellbeing is at stake. On an average, India reports 352,991 new Covid-19 cases, more than 2,800 deaths daily. It has also resulted in a surge in demand for oxygen and beds, resulting in severe shortages in hospitals across the nation.
However, the fact that India is running out of oxygen is a nightmare come true. The media has exposed us to the true struggle of people battling for their lives in packed hospitals. The alarming video of people unable to breathe, pleading for emergency admission, patients turned down by hospitals, oxygen shortages, deaths and 24-hour mass cremation has showed us how important it is to stay alive during this crisis.
According to reports, the increase in death is due to the lack of oxygen not reaching to the hospital on time. It’s also unclear why a country with such advanced medical technology lacks oxygen processing units.
Meanwhile, hashtags like #IndianLivesMatter, #IndiaNeedsOxygen and #PakistanStandsWithIndia were trending on Indian and Pakistani Twitter on Friday April 23.
Edhi Foundation, a Karachi-based charitable organisation, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, providing a convoy of 50 ambulances and facilities to help with the Covid crisis.

“We look forward to assisting you in managing the current humanitarian crisis, and hope only to provide our help in whatever way that we can, for the benefit of the people of India,” said Edhi in his letter to PM Narendra Modi.
India is yet to respond to the help offered.
Following the publication of the letter, many Pakistanis took this matter to Twitter to give assistance and support to India with the viral hashtags. They also urged PM Imran Khan to help India fight its battle.
