Our country is under tremendous pressure with the covid second wave hitting the nation at a faster pace than anticipated. With the number of cases peaking out more than the day before, the government of many states are taking the crucial decision of putting the state under lockdown.
Although this step has proven to help with the situation, for many those who earn through daily wages, times have been very difficult. To come to the aid of people like these in Mangaluru, Film maker and Tulu actor Roopesh Shetty along with a group of friends have started an initiative to distribute ration kits.
“Last year when the first wave of covid hit, we had distributed food packets to people who were stranded along the roads,” said Roopesh. “This year we decided to give ration kits because we saw that unlike last year, people were finding it difficult to get these essentials,” he added.
Roopesh said that through social media the team has tried to reach out to the people to find out who exactly are in need of the kits immediately. “We wanted to find out the ones that are genuinely in need of help and so far, we have got over 400 calls to the numbers we had given in the post,” he expressed. People from in and around have reached the team seeking help after seeing the flier.
Our state is in dire need of a lot of resources but we cannot help with providing of oxygen, ventilators and beds, said Roopesh. “We were motivated to help the people around and reach as many as we can in a way which was possible for us,” said Roopesh. He said that after working out on this initiative he will surely take further steps in the future to provide help to the ones in need.
