Dear traffic police, please look up from your phones

To the Traffic Constable, manning the busy KPT junction at around 8.15 am – as well as to the Lady Constable, standing at the Balmatta Collector’s Gate point at 8.30 am :

We all need to check our phones, from time to time. Even I do that. But once I enter my class, I make sure it is switched off, to avoid any nuisance to my class. In a meeting with my clients, I put it on silent mode and will call back on missed numbers later, once am done.

In a potential life-threatening eventuality with vehicles madly flying all around, some trying to cross, some late for school, college, work – a small mistake and it could be someone’s life. Because the personnel manning the junctions are busy o their cell phones and ignoring the traffic! The Balmatta traffic was superbly in chaos – though the presence of the lady Traffic Constable was visible, while her eye was busy scrolling her cell phone, it was a free-for-all motorists, with absolutely no heed to One-Way traffic, No Entry and whatever. Mangaluru City Traffic Police

And to our evergreen Mangaluru City Corporation – hats off to you!

An unwanted death at Nantur stretch – and they all swung in action, putting speed-breakers everywhere. Commendable!

Absolutely no indication, through warning reflective paints, sign boards, etc – donkey logic! Taking the Circuit House route downwards on a 2-wheeler, mad morning traffic blaring just behind, urging us to go faster – at the last moment I see the speed breaker which – till yesterday never existed. 40kmph, good balance on a scooter and reflexes saved me and my little 5-year old boy. Else we would be another statistic in your pathetic death records.

With the MCC hardly bothered, about spending a little more on much-required warning signs, it’s left to the citizens to do so jugaad, as usual. Yesterday evening, on this hump (seen above), a 2-wheeler rider went flying, crashed onto the divider, bounced and fell back onto the road, with larger vehicles just screeching and avoiding him on time. And his full-face helmet was just stylishly unstrapped and perched on his forehead, resulting in bad deep scratches to his face. Still he managed to limp away safely.! Way to go, City Corporation!
