What after Class 10? have you decided yet?

What to do after class 10? is a question that teens have to answer at a crucial stage of their lives – when they are vulnerable to parental, peer and internal pressures. Sometimes those pressures are compounded by a lack of knowledge of the options and choices before them! When you are on the cusp of adulthood, deciding ‘what you are going to do after Class 10’ will be one of the first decisions of your adult life and probably the most important one of your life.

At this stage, decision making as a life-skill is new to you and higher study options are aplenty these days… Science, Commerce, Humanities, Art, Design. It is all out there. When you have a choice, you feel empowered; but when you have to choose, the feeling of being in control can easily turn to fear; What if I make a wrong choice? – I will have to live with it for the rest of my life! If you are not clear about the career you want to build or do not have the necessary guidance, deciding what to do after Class 10 will surely be a daunting task.

For those students who have studied in the Middle East up to Class X, this decision is even tougher. There are limited study opportunities in the Gulf states and often their parents desire to send them back to India for their pre-university studies, which will then form the basis for their future studies in any stream. However, here too, while there are plenty of options to choose from, information is rather limited and awareness of the colleges, facilities, faculty, culture and the like of many Pre-University Colleges is lacking. The Vikaas Group of Institutions, Pre-University College is probably an ideal place to send your child for his / her Pre-University Studies – The website lists 26 reasons, one for each letter of the alphabet. But it’s best to get a feel of the College, available streams of study and career options available to you at the seminar that they will be conducting at the India Social and Cultural Center, Abu Dhabi on 19th October 2019 at 5.30 PM. If you are in Dubai or Abu Dhabi on that date, its best you attend it as Dr. A. Manjula Rao, Dean, Vikaas College Mangaluru and Jobin John will be dwelling on the possibilities for your future.

Attending this free career guidance seminar will help you make the right decision. After all, decision making is all about making an informed choice. But the information must be available to you – in the right form, in a comprehensive form and right where you want it to be. When you have the right kind of information, you will feel empowered; you will realize that the many choices out there are good for you; you can pick a combination that suits your interests, aptitude, and ability.

Post Class 10, picking the right stream is extremely important. Peer and Parental pressures must be avoided in making that choice. Many students pick the stream without actually understanding what lies in store for them after joining it. Therefore, proper understanding and knowledge of the stream you opt for and the future career options they offer is very important.

You can do that by adhering to the following steps: assess your Interests and Passion; analyze your strengths and weaknesses; identify what kind of a career you would like; gather all information about it – which stream to opt for to get where you want to be in the next 20 years and which college will suit you best – you can do this by Googling, taking the help of friends or attending career guidance seminars like the one Vikaas Group of Institutions is conducting at the  India Social and Cultural Center, Abu Dhabi on 19th October 2019 at 5.30 PM. Entry is free.
