Thumbay Dental Hospital, the largest private academic dental hospital in the Middle East located at Thumbay Medicity, Ajman celebrated its first anniversary on 13th April 2019. Prof. Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of Gulf Medical University served as the Chief Guest of the event held at the hospital. On the occasion of the first anniversary, the hospital also launched CBCT (Cone Beam Computerized Tomography), an advanced dental imaging modality used to create three dimensional images for accurate diagnostics and treatment planning.

CBCT uses advanced X-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. This technology produces 3-D images of teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan. It is useful in dental implantology, oral surgical procedures, cosmetic surgeries, endodontic and periodontics. The major advantage of CBCT is that it enables scanning the bone and the soft tissues at the same time. The procedure is comfortable and painless to the patient. With ever increasing applications and advances, CBCT is the imaging modality that dentistry will be heavily relying on in the future.
Future strategic directions of the hospital include plans to introduce stem cell treatment for dental diseases, for which an advanced ‘Dental Stem Cell Bank’ for harvesting/banking dental stem cells is planned at the hospital.
