Abu Dhabi: Persons who arrive in Abu Dhabi will, henceforth, be required to wear a tracking wristband while under the compulsory 14-day quarantine period, as per Etihad Airways.

The medically-approved tags are being handed to passengers arriving from all countries by the authorities at the Abu Dhabi International Airport.

In the new guidelines posted to its website, Etihad Airways says that passengers arriving in Abu Dhabi are required to self-isolate at home for a period of 14 days.

“…you will be required to wear a medically approved wristband for the duration. The wristband will be provided by the authorities at Abu Dhabi Airport after you clear immigration,” it added.

Only those who are “holding a diplomatic passport, under the age of 18, over the age of 60, or suffering from a chronic disease” are exempt from wearing the wristband, the airline stated.

Passengers who are arriving from countries considered “high risk” by the UAE authorities, may be asked to undergo quarantine at a government facility.

Informing the passengers that they will be asked to fill a form agreeing to self-isolate and do everything in their power to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country, Etihad said, “We recommend you complete this form in advance of your trip.”

Persons travelling to the UAE must undergo a Covid-19 PCR test before embarking on their journey and the test “must be carried out a maximum of 96 hours” prior to the flight’s departure time at “any government accredited medical facility”.

“Timings will differ if you are flying from China and other select destinations. Guests departing Pakistan and India must use an Etihad approved medical facility,” the airline said, adding that children under the age of 12 and people with mild and severe disabilities are exempt from the test.

As this may vary from destination to destination, the airline has asked its passengers to “always check” before flying.
