Over 10,000 people turn out to see Mangalorean Cricket Carnival 2019

mcc cup 33Abu Dhabi: Mangalore cup 2019 (Season-7) cricket Carnival and DANCPIRATION, was held on March 22, under the auspices of the MCC (Mangalore Cricket Club) at Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium ground, here.

MCC Vice President, Yahya Abbas MICCO, inaugurated the event. In his address to the gathering, Abbas said, “The power of the human will to compete and the drive to excel beyond the body’s normal capabilities is most beautifully demonstrated in the arena of sport. It doesn’t matter how good you are. Sport is all about playing and competing. Whatever you do in cricket and in sport, enjoy it, be positive and try to win.”

Matthew Boucher, CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket (ADC), who was present at the event, congratulated the MCC President for organising an excellent community cultural event and expressed his pleasure to host the Mangalorean community at the international cricket stadium. Overwhelmed by the amazing cultural events, he said, “Even in England we don’t get to witness such variety of cultural dances.”

More than ten thousand spectators turned out to see one of the biggest NRI cricket tournaments and cultural carnivals of the year. All the cricket communities came from across the seven Emirates of the UAE and enjoyed the splendid performance. As many as 14 Indian teams from across the UAE participated in the event. Several ‘sixes’ and super ‘catches’ enthralled the spectators from time to time, prompting them to jump out of their seats and break into cheers and applause.

The MCC organizers selected the following 14 teams for the tournament: MK Boys, Paris Kitchen, Reliable Riders, Shabiya Warriors, Mangalore Indians, Warriors Kateel, Abone CC, Aims Cricketers, Eleven Warriors, KFC Strikers, Al Sitara, Black Caps, Sumtech Raising and SMGT Musffah. All the participating teams gave their best.

Winner of the tournament, Abone CC received a Trophy and cash award of AED 11,000. The runners-up, KFC Strikers received a trophy and cash award of AED 6,000.

There were many trophies for the following categories: Man of the Match (finals), Man of the Series, Best All-rounder of the Tournament, Best Batsman of the Tournament, Best Bowler of the Tournament, Best Catcher of the Tournament, Best Fielder of the Tournament, Best Keeper of the Tournament, Hatrick Wicket-taker, Man of the Match award for individual league match, Best Bowler, Best Keeper, Best Fielder, Best All-rounder, Best catcher etc.

During the presentation ceremony, MCC president Latheef K H expressed his sincere gratitude to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan founder of UAE and the other rulers for their support towards the expatriate community. He then honoured the guests and sponsors with a memento.

The Indian audience were seen capturing the moments on their camera mobile phones and cheering the performers during the cultural events. ABCD star and Dance India Dance celebrity judge Kishore Aman Shetty, ETV fame celebrity judge Anshu Priya and Yathish Amin were the judges for the cultural carnival.

Children from the ‘Steps & Strings’ Music, Dance, Arts and Events institute performed a dazzling cultural dance.

As part of the lucky draw, spectators received gold coins, mobile phones, tabs and other attractive prizes.

Arwa, Almarai, Coco-Cola, Seba Med and Pediasure, put up their kiosks and distributed their products to all the spectators to support the tournament under their corporate responsibility and social commitment ethos.

As part of the event, Sooraj Prabhakaran, Manager- Medical Centres at Ahalia Medical Group Hospital team conducted free health check-up at the stadium for the spectators and teams.

Face painting for kids and other sports activities were also organised for families.

Earlier, the spectators observed a two-minute silence for over 40 CRPF soldiers who died in the abhorrent and dastardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama.

Latheef K H said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families of the fallen soldiers.”

Sahil Zaheer, RJ from 98.3 FM flew all the way from India to be the Master of the Ceremony and succeeded in maintaining the energy of the crowd till the last moment.

MCC President Latheef KH thanked the sponsors, participating teams and the audience for making the seventh season a great success. He remembered Ronald Pinto, Managing Director, Hysna International, who has been supporting the tournament. He also thanked Abu Dhabi Cricket (ADC) for its patronage and for allowing them to use the international cricket stadium for the event. He then informed that the upcoming MCC tournament details will be posted in www.mccabudhabi.com.

Hysna International, Regal, Safeline, Sumtech, Bindirai, UAE Exchange, Sanana Trading, step & Strings, Ramee Group, Broadway event management, Crosswind, Royal Institute of Music & Arts and Abu Dhabi Cricket joined hands with MCC to make the event a great success.
