Dubai: A new temple will be built in Dubai’s Jebel Ali, the construction of which is expected to be completed by 2022.
The trustees of the existing Sindhi Guru Durbar Temple held a Bhoomi Puja at the new temple site last week. The site is located next to the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara.
Raju Shroff, one of the trustees of the Sindhi Guru Darbar Temple, told Gulf News that the new temple is an “extention of the existing Sindhi Guru Darbar Temple” in Bur Budai.
He informed that the temple will be run by a core group of trustees.
Reportedly, the temple will be designed by Dubai-based Architectural Corner and the construction is likely to begin in March.
The trustees managed to secure 25,000 sq ft of land from the Dubai government to build the temple. “It will be built at a cost of Dh 75 million,” he added.
The new temple will be more spacious than the first one that was built in 1958 in Bur Dubai on a piece of land granted by the late Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum.
Gulf News reports that the trustees are seeking government approval to begin the construction at the new site and are in talks with the Community Development Authority (CDA) Dubai and Dubai Municipality for the same.
They are also trying to raise funds from the Indian community for the construction of the temple.
