Dubai: Karnataka Non-Resident Indian Committee – UAE president Praveen Kumar Shetty has written to Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, asking him to address various grievances of the Committee, including the appointment of a Kannadiga as its vice president.
“It is truly commendable that for the first time during the tenure of the government, from 2008 to 2011, a cell was started for the welfare of the expatriates,” he wrote in the letter.
“The humble plea of the non-resident Kannadigas is that the government should appoint a Kannadiga vice president to Karnataka Non-Resident Indians Committee to look after the welfare of the NRI, restarting the NRI ID card, constructing a Kannada Bhavan in the UAE, where Kannadigas are more in number and initiating Kannada classes. This will help the future generation to learn Kannada and preserve and practice the rich heritage of Karnataka,” he added.
