Dubai: Indian expatriates on Thursday gathered at the consulate here and the embassy in Abu Dhabi to mark the 73rd Independence Day and witnessed the unfurling of the Tricolour.

While a special statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be unveiled in Abu Dhabi, separate celebrations are set to take place in Indian associations across the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Khaleej Times reported.

Besides missions and organisations, Indian expatriates across the UAE were also gearing up for the festivities.

As preparations went in full swing, members of the community looked back at how far India has come and how strong its relations with the UAE has become.
