New Delhi: The spike in Covid-19 cases in India has led Emirates to suspend flights between Dubai and India for ten days starting Sunday.

The decision to halt flights by the Gulf country’s airline comes only days after Britain placed its travel restrictions on India. Prime Minister Boris Johnson had cancelled his trip to New Delhi.

Travellers arriving from India would also be subjected to a 10-day quarantine in France.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday April 22 reported that it had issued approximately 10 million vaccine doses or one for each resident.

UAE has launched a massive Covid vaccination programme for its residents as well as foreigners. The UAE now has 502,000 coronavirus cases, the highest number among Gulf states and surpassing it’s far larger neighbour Saudi Arabia.

Masks and social distancing are mandatory in UAE. Restaurants and shops are open for business as usual.
