Dubai: In a tragic incident, an Omani tourist bus met with an accident in Dubai on Thursday evening, killing 17 people, eight of whom were Indians. As many as five people were injured in the incident.
Reportedly, the bus carrying 31 passengers of different nationalities, crashed into a signboard at the Al Rashidiya exit towards the metro station at 5.40 PM on Thursday.
Informing about the tragedy, the Consulate General of India (CGI), Dubai tweeted, “We are sorry to inform that as per local authorities and relatives it is so far confirmed that 8 Indians have passed away in Dubai bus accident. Consulate is in touch with relatives of some of the deceased & awaits further details for others to inform their families. (sic)”
According to the CGI, the deceased are, Rajagopalan, Feroz Khan Pathan, Reshma Feroz Khan Pathan, Deepak Kumar, Jamaludeen Arakkaveettil, Kiran Johnny, Vasudev and Tilakram Jawahar Thakur.
The Dubai police informed, in a series of the tweets, that the bodies of the dead were transferred to the competent authorities and that the injured were sent to Rashid Hospital for treatment.
According to the police, the driver of the bus is around 50 years of age and sustained minor injuries in the accident. They added that the cause of the accident is being investigated.
After the unfortunate incident, Dubai police Commander-in-chief Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri called on drivers to pay attention while driving and said that sometimes, a small error or negligence while driving can lead to dire consequences.
