Yoga is not confined to any religion: Y Sreekanth

Mysuru: “Yoga is not confined to any religion and it is not just a practice it is everything that human requires,” said Y Sreekanth, Principal of Regional Institute of Education.

Speaking after inaugurating three day national seminar cum workshop on ‘Importance of Yoga in the Education of Children with Special Needs”, organized by Department of Special Education, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru, Y Sreekanth said “Yoga is not only for so called normal children but every child should learn yoga. Infact, many countries do understand the importance of yoga, especially when it comes to physically challenged children. When compared to other exercises, yoga has immensely improved their health. Yoga is very effective.”

“I say this with personnel experience. I had put on more than 90 kilogram weight and was feeling difficult to climb stairs and even walk. Many of them advised me to practice Yoga. After practicing yoga I reduced my weight drastically. Apart from this, yoga is also a stress buster. Practicing meditation for ten minutes gives lot of relaxation to the mind. Yoga also helps people with cerebral palsy and other diseases, Sreekanth added.”

“When practiced every day, Yoga can do miracles. In foreign countries, there have been improvements in studies and health among the children who have practice yoga. Through yoga psychological, physical and emotional aspects can be improved. It makes body more flexible, opens the mind and makes people happy” Sreekanth said.

M Pushpavathi, Director of AIISH, who also spoke on the occasion said that during the previous International Yoga Day celebrations, specially abled kids from the AIISH also took part in Yoga at the ‘Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama’ and to everyone’s surprise; kids performed Yoga just like every other kid. She also mentioned that yoga also help pregnant women as it will improve health of the baby.

More than 100 participants from across the country are taking part in the three day workshop.
