Mysuru: Royal family scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar said that the Mysuru airport should be renamed after his grandfather Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, who was the last king of the state.
He was speaking at the centenary celebrations of JC Wadiyar which had been organised by the JSS?Mahavidyapeetha and the History Department of JSS College for Women on Saturday, February 15.
Addressing the gathering, Yaduveer informed that it was suitable to name an airport after Jayachamaraja Wadiyar as he had always been enthusiastic about aviation. He said, “JC?Wadiyar owned an aircraft after World War II?and the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel used it on several occasions. JC?Wadiyar helped in establishing Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India’s largest defence and aerospace company.”
Yaduveer also demanded the restoration of heritage structures in the Devaraja Market. He argued that the Heritage Committee’s suggestion to demolish and reconstruct them was not acceptable.
“The court has directed to form a Heritage Committee and to decide, based on the suggestions of the committee. The claims of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner that the court has ordered for demolition, is wrong,” he added.
Tourism Minister CT Ravi, MP Pratap Simha, and Suttur mutt seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami were present.
