Mysore: The Mysore City Traffic Police are planning to launch a week long awareness drive to emphasise the wearing of seat belts in four-wheelers to ensure safety of Driver and passengers.
Based on the provisions under the existing laws, the city police have decided to make wearing seat belts mandatory for the safety of passengers.As a part of this initiative pamphlets were distributed to acknowledge and highlighting the importance of safety measures while driving among the people.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Prabhakara Barki said that the objective of the campaign is to sensitize people on the subject.
He also said that it is necessary to create awareness, before enforcing the law. People should realize its importance and voluntarily start wearing seat belts. It has become necessary to wear seat belt as it protects passengers to some extent in the event of accidents, he said
Our present focus is on educating the people. Later, we will focus on the enforcement of law, he concluded.
