Mysuru: “The State Government is working on plans for bringing tribals to mainstream of society by empowering them with skill based training,” said Social Welfare and Backward Classes Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya.
He was speaking after inaugurating skill-based training programme for Tribals from Mysuru, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar Districts, at Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar on Thursday, August 6.

The training programme is jointly organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, Scheduled Tribes Development Department, Government of Karnataka and Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute, Mysuru (KSTRI).

More than 1,000 tribal youths from Mysuru, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar Districts are taking part in the event.

Pointing out that tribals lived mostly in forests, Anjaneya stressed on the need for providing civic amenities such as drinking water, power connections, sanitation etc., to them and said that the State Government had accorded top priority to this.

Regretting that tribals were deprived of education, the Minister emphasised the need for more focused approach on integrated socio-economic development of Tribals (STs) who are the most under privileged sections of the society.

Calling for an overall policy, planning and co-ordination of programmes for development of STs, Anjaneya batted for more reservation for STs in the employment sector and assured that he would speak to the Chief Minister in this regard.

He also said that this skill based training programme, which features training in Bamboo furniture making, tailoring classes, computer, mobile and other electronic gadget repairs, LMV driving etc., would empower the tribal youths with skills for taking up jobs or run their own small business.

K.R. MLA M.K. Somashekar presided. ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma, former MP A.H. Vishwanath, former MLA S. Balaraj, Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation Chairman Basavaraj, KSTRI Director Dr. T. T. Basavanagouda and others were present for the inaugural.
