Mysuru: Health minister B Sreeramulu paid a visit to the family of the 25-year-old Mysuru student who was shot dead in California, on Saturday, November 30.

It can be recalled that Abhishek Bhat, son of Sudhesh Bhat a resident of Kuvempunagar in Mysuru, was shot dead in a San Bernardino hotel, where he was working part-time to put himself through college, by an as-yet-unidentified person on November 28. He had been living in California for the last one and a half years and was pursuing an MS degree in Computer Science from the California State University in San Bernardino.

The minister, after the meeting the family, informed that Abhishek was working at the hotel as a receptionist. “His parents informed me that Abhishek had asked some American customers to vacate the premises as it was closing time, which is why they shot him,” he said.

He also said that the deceased’s parents want to fly to the US for his final rites. “They want his final rites to be performed in San Bernardino. However, due to an issue in his brother’s passport, they were unable to travel to California,” Sreeramulu informed.

He then assured that he would speak about the issue with Union Ministers Sadananda Gowda and Prahlad Joshi. “I will make the necessary arrangements for his family to be able to conduct his last rites. We all also speak to the Ministry of External Affairs to take note of the incident and take the necessary steps to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future,” he added.
