Mysuru: Dasara is one of the most-awaited festivals in the Mysuru district and is celebrated with great pomp and show annually.

The city’s residents have already begun preparations for the world-famous festival with a Gajapayana (elephant march) on Thursday, August 22.

The celebrations generally last for a period of ten days, and this year, they will be held from September 29 to October 8.

The Gajapayana, which signifies the official countdown to the Dasara celebrations, was flagged off at Veeranahosahalli at the outskirts of the Nagarahole National park.

The first batch of six elephants, led by Arjuna – the Golden Howdah-carrying elephant – began their journey to the city on Thursday morning.

Another popular attraction during the festival is the famous Mysuru Palace, which is lit up with 100,000 light bulbs making it a beautiful sight to behold. People come from all over the world to witness and take part in the celebrations.
