Mysuru: In the recently announced II PU results, the pass percentage of aided PU colleges in Mysuru district is less than that of government PU colleges. Last year, many students didn’t do well in English and Economics, but this year many students have done exceptionally well in English and Biology.

Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, Dayanand, DDPU, Mysuru district said that after getting all facilities from government, especially salary for teaching staffs, many aided PU colleges failed to come out with good results in II PU exams.

“For the past three years, the pass percentage in these aided colleges is less than 45 per cent. Keeping this in mind, we will issue letters to all aided institutions to give the reasons for poor performance in their respective institutions. After collecting the feedback from the institutions we are also sending the same to government for its further action.

This year, the pass percentage of aided PU colleges is less than 45 per cent; Government PU college pass percentage is more than 60 per cent while unaided college has secured more than 70 per cent result,” he said pointing out that some of the lecturers in the unaided colleges are paid very less but despite that they manage to get good result.

“We fail to understand why the results of aided college where the lecturers get salary on the lines of government PU college lecturers are so poor, ” he said adding that notice will also be issued to colleges whose pass percentage is less than 50 per cent. The subject teachers should also give an explanation for the poor performance.

Though Mysuru district improved its overall ranking from 17th position in 2018 to 15th position this year, there is a concern for district authorities as aided colleges are not putting up a better show.

“When compared to Dakshina Kannada, the commitment of lecturers and parents in Mysuru is comparatively less. Though we request parents to attend meetings to know the performance of their children, many parents do not bother to attend due to which they can’t keep track or know where exactly their children stand.

In Dakshina Kannada, most of the parents will be behind their children and keep track of their academic performance. Such responsibility should also increase among parents in Mysuru” added Dayanand.
