Mysuru: After the familicide in Gundlupet shocked the residents of Mysuru city, the Gundlupet police have now taken businessman Omprakash Bhattacharya’s ex-service gunman into custody.
It is believed that the gunman, identified as Nagesh, was interrogated by police as he was the one who lent Bhattacharya the pistol that was used in the murders and his suicide.
It can be recalled that last week, Bhattacharya murdered his parents, wife and son before shooting himself with a .32mm pistol.
As per the documents, the .32mm pistol is registered to Nagesh and had twelve bullets, six of which were used by Bhattacharya in the familicide.
It is now being speculated that Bhattacharya may have used one of the bullets to test the gun as there were only five victims in the house.
The gunman has been booked under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Indian Arms Act, 1959.
Bhattacharya had reportedly hired three gunmen seven months ago, all of whom were incredibly well-paid. Police have said that the other two gunmen will also be questioned in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, the Gundlupet Police are also investigating if Bhattacharya had any connections to the underworld as he received several international calls in the last seven months.
The police investigation has also revealed that, despite Bhattacharya’s lavish lifestyle, he was drowning in debt. In an attempt to settle his dues, the businessman had sold his company and residence.
Initial observations inside the house had revealed that the family was packing to move to an undisclosed location before Bhattacharya ended all their lives.
