Mysuru: Reeling under the fear of COVID-19, even the elephants taking part in the Dasara festivities have been kept under quarantine by the forest department. The mahouts and kavadis too have been asked to remain quarantined.
These elephants are not even being brought out of their accommodation even for weighing. The last time all the elephants were weighed was when they left for Mysuru from Veerahosalli.
Meanwhile, 19 persons, including the mahouts, kavadis, assistants and supervisors of the elephants from the forest department, were subjected to COVID tests and their reports have come back negative.
At present, the elephants are being trained for the ‘Jumbo Savari’, prior to which 21 canons will be fired on Vijayadashami.
The Mysuru district has been witnessing a sharp increase in the number of Corona cases in the past few weeks.
