Mysuru: Many people in North Karnataka are literally on the streets without proper shelter because of the floods, but housing minister Somanna is busy preparing for the Dasara celebration in Mysuru. I don't know whether he is the housing minister or the Dasara celebration minister, mocked former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.
"Due to the release of water from the Koina dam, the people in North Karnataka are facing a severe flood problem. Many houses have been submerged and the people are literally on the street. In this time of difficulty, the housing minister is busy preparing for the Dasara celebration instead of providing alternate shelter to the flood-affected, which is really unfortunate. There are other officials who are capable of promoting the Dasara celebrations. During our time when Kodagu faced severe floods, the then district minister S R Mahesh and housing minister U T Khader, pitched in to help the needy people. However, it is not the same under the current government," Kumaraswamy, who was in Mysuru to address his party workers, added.
“A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over Rs 7000 cores to Russia, but it is unfortunate that he hasn't released even a single pie or even visited the flood-affected places in North Karnataka. Even though we have 25 BJP MPs from the state, including four Union ministers and a BJP government in the state, none of the senior leaders are able to get an appointment with the Prime Minister. I don’t know why our OM is not able to understand our problem. If our state government is committed, they need not wait for money from the Central Government to take up flood relief works,” HDK said.
