Mysuru: The district admnistration will decorate the golden howdah and drape the saree for Goddess Chamundeshwari during the procession, said district in-charge minister V Somanna.
“The government, which is celebrating the Dasara festival in a grand manner by spending crores of rupees, can afford a saree and decoration for Goddess Chamundeshwari. Henceforth, the saree to drape the Goddess’s idol before being placed inside the golden howdah for the procession, will not be accepted from the public,” the minister added.
Usually, only private influential individuals would get the opportunity to donate and drape the saree on the Goddess’ idol for the procession. There was a lot of pressure on district officials to choose who could donate and drape the saree. After seeing all these problems and noticing that a lot of politics is involved in this process, the district minister, after consulting historian Nanjaraj Urs, decided that the government will buy the saree for the Goddess henceforth.
The decoration of the idol will also be looked after by the government. Henceforth, there should be no confusion in this regard, Somanna added.
