Mysuru: Even as equality for the Dalit is still distant dream in this modern 21st century, here in the Royal city of Mysuru stands tall a Star hotel run by dalit women.
This Green hotel in Hunasur main road in Mysuru has given importance to dalit women and has become an example for the entire country.
The hotel has employed 12 backward class women and also four widows. The hotel has given them free training and has not sought any qualifications while handpicking these women.
Malgudi- Bakery with difference
The hotel has also given all the freedom to serve sweets and other snacks to the customers prepared by them.
Pushpa, one of the employee expressing happiness over hiring women from such a section said, “I have been working in this hotel from the last 18 years. I am thankful to the owner for giving me work. We ourselves prepare cakes, bread, juice, coffee-tea and other items and serve it to guests from all over the world. In society they look at us as children of pourakarmikas but this hotel has treated just like human beings. We have shown to the society that we are equal and not children of lesser gods.”
Hotel Manager D’souza speaking to Newskarnataka says, “The Green hotel was started by a London based man with the help of a trust in 1994 to help those people who needed to be brought to the mainstream of the society.”
The Malgudi bakery was started exclusively for oppressed women. Only women are employed in this Bakery. The women here are given six months training to speak in English as well as other languages. The profit made here goes to the trust to help the needy, he said.
This model hotel is truly a star hotel not because of the luxury index, but because of the great social change that it has continues to strive for.
