Mysuru: In a bid to make Dasara festival all the more inclusive, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Mysuru is striving to conduct Dasara sports meet for the physically challenged persons from next year.
The demand for having a separate, exclusive event for the physically challenged persons has been making rounds for some time now. Recently, the demand was brought to the notice of Zilla Panchayat CEO K Jyothi. The CEO instantly directed DYES Assistant Director K Suresh to conduct state level dasara sports to physically challenged as well.
Based on an instruction from ZP CEO, DYES assistant director K Suresh will be sending the proposal to the DYES in Bengaluru, who in turn may communicate the same to Karnataka Olympic Association for their approval and recognition for the event. Though there was demand from physically challenged sports persons to start state-level Dasara sports from this year itself, the authorities due to time constraint couldn’t start it.
Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, Jyothi said, “We are conducting various dasara events including Yoga Dasara and Yuva Dasara and I feel it will be a positive trend to start event exclusively for the physically challenged persons. We have made a proposal and now we will wait for the response."
R Manjunath, Physically challenged international Paralympics athlete, welcoming ZP CEO's decision said, “It was long pending demand of physically challenged sports persons. At last our dream is inching towards becoming reality.”
