Mysuru: Meenakshi Mahadevaswamy, former corporator of Mysore City Corporation from Congress party during 1990-95 and former Health Committee Chairman lost her consciousness at home on May 30. She was shifted to Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru in an unconscious and critical condition. Initial CT scan showed brain stem infarct. The patient was shifted to ICU for life support and intensive care.
She was kept on life support the whole night in a very critical state. The next day, patient was declared brain dead due to brain stem failure as per the hospital protocol stipulated by the Transplant of Human Organs Act 1994 by panel list doctors at Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysore.
Meenakshi Mahadevaswamy was healthy before the incident and further tests confirmed her eligibility for organ donation. Her attendents were counselled for organ donation. As per the defined protocol, the deceased patient’s brother and relatives have come forward to donate Ms. Meenakshi’s organs. As per organ donation protocols, officials from Jeeva Sarthakathe which was earlier known as ZCCK, initiated the process as per the organ recipients’ waiting list.
At around 10 AM on May 31, Meenakshi’s organs (liver and cornea) were retrieved at Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysuru. Liver was transplanted into a recipient waiting for the organ for more than six months who was registered with Jeeva Sarthakathe.
