District panchayat protest against illegal mining

Madikeri:  Against the illegal mining at Cauvery River near Sidhapura, the District panchayat member protested objecting the same.

An occurrence of illegal mining and transport in Cauvery River at Baradhi near Nalihudhikari was witnessed by the villagers and they along with the member from the panchayat conducted a protest by sleeping on the sand.

The district panchayat member, Balarandamani Uttappa urged the police officials to take action against this. He also said that all the sand that has been mined illegally until now must be seized at the earliest. Portraying his anger aligned with this he slept on the sand, so that the sand must not be transported.

Harivardhan, the investigating officer of Baradhi police station, verified the matter and seized the illegal sand.

The Panchayat members also revealed that for the past few days sand has been mined and transported illicitly. They have accused the officials of Mining and Geological department for not taking proper measures and suspect their involvement.
