DC Abhiram presents brief on dist admin’s preparedness for Hunsur by-poll

Mysuru: “The Election Commission of India (ECI) has already announced the dates of the Karnataka by-polls. According to the schedule, 15 Assembly constituencies, including Hunsur, will go for by-polls on December 5, the counting will be held on December 9 and the election procedures will end on December 11,” said Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Shankar.

Addressing the media he said, “Amar Kushwaha has been appointed as the election observer whose contact number is 7259813556 and Upinder Bir Singh as the election expenditure observer who can be reached at 7899831135. For more details, you can contact the aforementioned numbers.”

“We have received 31 nominations from 21 candidates contesting from the Hunsur Assembly constituency. None have been disqualified. However, 11 of them have withdrawn their nominations, leaving only 10 candidates in the fray,” he informed.

Further, he said, “Hunsur Sub-Division officer S Poovitha has been appointed as the polling officer and her contact detail is 9606137722. Tahsildar Basavaraj I E has been appointed as the assistant polling officer.”

About the voters in the constituency, DC Abhiram said, “As there are 2,27,974 voters, 274 polling booths have been installed. As many as 1,14,146 of the electorate are male, 1,12,770 are female and four are others. In addition to this, 434 males, 618 females and six others have been included in the voters’ list. A total of 2,235 specially-abled voters are present with no addition in this list.”

“Basic facilities like drinking water, toilets, electricity etc. have already been provided to the polling centres. Around 329 Ballot Units (BU), 329 Control Units (CU) and 357 VVPAT machines have been kept in a room at the Hunsur City Municipal Corporation under tight police security and CCTV surveillance,” he added.

He said, “After spot inspection by the concerned department officials, Sri D Devaraj Urs Government First Grade College has been selected as the Mastering and De-Mastering centres. Control rooms have been set up and the numbers are– Deputy Commissioner’s office (1077/1950), Hunsur Sub Divisional officer (08222-252073) and Hunsur Taluk office (08222-252040). At the DC office control room number 1950, till date, we have received 94 calls.”

“Check posts have been opened at Manuganahalli, Veeranahosahalli, Mutturayanahosahlli and Doddekoppalu. In addition to this, check posts have been established at Asvala, Shantipura and Shirenahalli. As nine check posts are already in place, the officials have already seized money, alcohol and other materials being illegally transported to be distributed to the voters,” he added.

Reading out the details of the cash seized, the DC said, “A total of Rs 6,35,300 has been seized, of which Rs 4,00,000 has been returned to the owners after a thorough scan of the documents. Alcohol worth Rs 1.37 crores has been seized, along with Rs 97, 90,000 worth in pamphlets, utensils, sarees, two wheelers, four wheelers, and four tankers. Till date 40 FIRs have been filed.”

“The ECI has decided to declare a five-day holiday for all private and government employees who come under the Hunsur constituency,” he added.

Superintendent of Police Ryshyanth, Election Observer Amar Kushwaha, Election Expenditure Observer Upinder Bir Singh and others were present.
