Mysuru: The Gundlupet Police have taken possession of the house belonging to the family that was shot dead recently in the Chamarajanagar district. They formally took possession of House Number 18 and opened the doors before the other family members.
It can be recalled that 36-year-old businessman and entrepreneur Omprakash Bhattacharya shot his wife, son, father and mother before shooting himself with a pistol early on August 16 morning.
A post-mortem of the deceased was conducted yesterday at 8.30 PM after which they were placed in coffins outside the house as the police had not yet taken it into their possession.
Gundlupet Circle Inspector H R Balakrishna and his team are currently investigating the case. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad were brought in to uncover clues that could explain what led to the incident.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, Circle Inspector Balakrishna said that, based on initial observations made within the house it appeared that the family was preparing to leave somewhere.
“It looks like Omprakash was under severe pressure. We have also learnt that he had hired gunmen to protect him and his family. We have taken over the house and the mahazar will continue for four to five days and no one will be allowed inside. Also, we will record the statements of relatives, neighbours and all those vendors who supplied essentials to the family,” he said.
Inspector Balakrishna further said, “Though it looks like Omprakash was under severe financial pressure, it is too early to determine the exact cause of his brutal action. The Hawala angle where crores of rupees have reportedly landed in Omprakash’s bank accounts will be probed in detail and his call records of at least 6 months will be examined.”
